Discussion of EA DC community norms in light of broader EA community issues
March 16 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

In the last few months the broader EA movement has reckoned with several prominent and serious community issues coming to light:
- TIME article on sexual harassment in the broader EA community
- A racist email from a prominent EA, Nick Bostrom, from 1996, and his recent apology, summarized here.
EA DC takes these and other problems in EA seriously and we work to ensure that the DC community is a safe space for all our members, and that racism and sexual harassment have no place here. We want to be sure that our members have a space to discuss community norms and how EA DC can best serve you, so we’re organizing this event to give community members a space to share how you’re experiencing this and any ways EA DC as a community can respond and do better inn ways we’re currently not. We want to hear what’s on your mind! Among other things we’ll discuss:
- How can EA be better (from the community to leadership levels)?
- What norms and policies can EA DC support and uphold to make the community work for you?
To ensure everyone feels comfortable sharing their critical thoughts, we are committed to creating a relaxed and welcoming environment where respecting and trying to understand differing opinions is key.
EA DC is excited to hear from you regardless of whether you’re comfortable sharing feedback and ideas publicly. If you’d like to talk separately you can always reach us at Info@EffectiveAltruismDC.org or using our anonymous feedback form here.
