Note from the organizers:
We’re expecting this to be a large event and we’re excited to have you join! Because the event space is limited, we ask that if you register and then find out that you’re unable to join that you rescind your registration or email the event organizers at Info@EffectiveAltruismDC.org to make sure that there are more tickets for members who can attend!
Event Info:
Join EA DC for a large networking event where members will discuss working in, among other areas, the following cause areas:
- AI
- Animal Welfare
- Biosecurity
- International Security and Foreign Policy
- Global Health and Development
Each group’s main DC organizer will be present and able to chat and connect attendees, along with members working in the cause area in DC. Each cause area will have a designated section of the meeting room where any attendee may go to discuss it and meet people working in and interested in the space.
Whether you’re considering a career change and looking to explore new options, looking for ways to connect with people in other fields to collaborate on EA work and projects, or just excited to meet a lot of really cool people doing really important work, this event is for you!
Location:
Three Whistles Workspace – 2719 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201
The event space will have stations for conversations about each major cause area represented:
- AI
- Animal Welfare
- Biosecurity
- Global health and development
- International Security and Foreign Policy
Vegan catering from Shouk will be provided!
Dress:
If you’re unsure of how you’d like to dress for the event we suggest business casual, but anything you’re comfortable with is great!
Goals for the event:
We want you to use this event to connect with lots of other EA DC members who can help you:
- Be more effective in the career you currently have
- Prioritize what to work on and where to work on it
- Learn about EA activity in each cause area and professional field
- Connect professionally and socially to the EA community in DC in general
You should aim to have a lot of conversations with different people and make yourself available to talk to people about what you do and what you’re interested in. Some attendees will have a lot of high-level experience in their cause area while others will be totally new or still in college. You can decide for yourself how you would like to keep in touch with members after the event. We encourage you to connect on LinkedIn and share other contact info with everyone you have a valuable conversation with.
Rules and Expectations:
- Please keep all conversations professional and on-topic. Be polite and welcoming to everyone.
- Try to avoid EA buzzwords and more technical language unless you know that the other person knows what you’re talking about. Expect to talk to EAs at very different career stages.
